2026–2027 Season Enrollment

Complete IEA enrollment by Sunday, August 2.

Parents and guardians should use the official enrollment guide below. During registration on the IEA website, search for Courtney Carlson Hunters and Jumpers and select this barn so the team can register riders for upcoming shows.

How to enroll

  2. Create or sign in to the rider's IEA account.
  3. Search for Courtney Carlson Hunters and Jumpers.
  4. Select the barn and complete the 2026–2027 membership registration.

What Is IEA?

Compete without owning a horse.

IEA is a national, draw-based equestrian competition program. Riders do not need to own a horse or bring their own riding tack to participate. At each show, horses are provided by host teams, colleges, and barn owners, giving riders the opportunity to demonstrate their horsemanship and adaptability on a horse selected through the draw.

A More Accessible Way to Show

The catch-ride format helps make competition more accessible by removing the expense and responsibility of owning and transporting a show horse. Riders compete at an appropriate experience level with coaching and preparation from Carlson Hunters & Jumpers.

Opportunities for Every Stage

IEA offers Hunt Seat opportunities for riders in grades 4–12 and an Adult Rider Division for amateur riders age 21 and older. Riders can progress through local, regional, zone, and national competition while building confidence, teamwork, leadership, and horsemanship knowledge.

Who Can Join

  • Middle School Junior Varsity: grades 4–8
  • High School Varsity: grades 9–12
  • Adult Rider Division: amateur riders age 21 and older
  • Skill levels: Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, and Open
  • Season runs August through May
  • Riders compete in 1–5 regular competitions per season
  • Monthly meetings and team activities

Rider Requirements

  • One regular lesson and one group IEA lesson each week
  • At least one week of IEA camp
  • Approved ASTM helmet
  • Active lesson package
  • Approved show and team apparel

New for Adult Riders

IEA Adult Rider Division.

Adult amateur riders can experience the IEA competition format with coaching support, individual points, and classes designed for a range of riding levels.

Who Is Eligible

  • Amateur riders age 21 and older
  • Active IEA adult rider membership
  • Association with a registered IEA coach
  • Individual participation rather than youth-team scoring

Adult Hunt Seat Opportunities

The 2026–2027 Adult Rider Division offers adult classes in the IEA draw-based format, allowing riders to compete without owning a horse.

Team Presentation

Show apparel guide.

Riders should arrive polished, comfortable, and show-ring ready. Preferred brands are listed first; acceptable alternatives are also noted below.

Core Show Attire

Tan breeches
Preferred: RJ Classics or Tailored Sportsman. Kerrits and Ovation are acceptable.
White collar shirt
Preferred: Essex or Tailored Sportsman. Kerrits and Ovation are acceptable.
Navy or black show coat
Preferred: RJ Classics or Ariat. Shires is acceptable.
Black helmet
One K, KASK, or Samshield are preferred. Tipperary, IRH, and Equinavia are acceptable.
Belt
Black, navy, or leather.
Gloves
Black gloves. Roeckl and Ovation are recommended.

Footwear & Hair

Riders 13 & Under

  • Black or brown paddock boots; Ariat, TuffRider, and Ovation are recommended
  • Garter straps matching the paddock boot color
  • Two bows for hair

Riders 13 & Over

  • Half chaps; TuffRider, Ariat, and Ovation are recommended
  • Tall boots; Tredstep, Ego 7, Parlanti, Tucci, and Ariat are preferred
  • A hair-color-matched hair net or One Knot hair net
